Built to deliver top-shelf sound in a desk-friendly and easy-to-use format for panel podcasters, producers, and small bands, the third-generation Focusrite Scarlett 18i8 18×8 USB audio/MIDI interface allows artists and content creators to achieve pro-level tone effortlessly.

The first two XLR-1/4″ combo inputs are software-switchable to accept signals directly from electric instruments like guitar and bass or from line-level sources such as stereo mixers. Combo inputs 3-4 can handle signals from mic or line sources. The rear panel includes four additional fixed-level 1/4″ inputs for more line-level sources, like external mic preamps.

The virtual loopback function on the Scarlett 18i8 provides podcasters with an easy mix-minus setup to handle calls without the caller experiencing delayed audio. Further, traditional 5-pin MIDI I/O ensures seamless integration with MIDI equipment. S/PDIF stereo digital I/O jacks are also available for connecting outboard AD/DA converters or other digital gear, while the ADAT optical input allows for up to eight more channels of recording.

Scarlett Mic Preamps with Customizable Tone

The four upgraded third-generation Scarlett mic preamps come with switchable 48V phantom power for condenser mics and a per-channel Air setting that replicates the Air effect of Focusrite’s original ISA mic preamp. This feature imparts enhanced brightness and openness to your vocal recordings. Additionally, selectable input pads prevent distortion when tracking high-level sources like acoustic drums or electric guitars with active pickups.

Instrument/Line Switching

Thanks to the software-switchable instrument/line settings, the front panel’s first two XLR-1/4″ combo inputs ensure distortion-free recording of instruments such as electric guitars, bass, synthesizers, or drum machines without DI boxes or amplifiers. Combo inputs 3-4 can handle mic- or line-level sources.

Rear-Panel Line Inputs

The Scarlett 18i8 features four balanced 1/4″ line inputs on the rear panel, allowing you to connect line-level sources like external mic preamps, outboard mixers, or synthesizer sound modules, leaving the front-panel inputs available for direct connection of mics, instruments, or other line-level sources.

Independent gain knobs and multicolor gain halo meters on the Scarlett 18i8 provide a user-friendly setup, enabling you to dial in the perfect levels effortlessly.

Dual Independent Headphone and Main/Alt Monitor Outputs

The four balanced 1/4″ TRS monitor outputs on the rear panel ensure hum-free connectivity with two pairs of balanced studio monitors. Anti-thump technology protects your speakers when powering the interface on. Additionally, two front-panel 1/4″ headphone jacks with dedicated volume knobs allow for critical listening by two people simultaneously. The large knob controls the volume of the main monitor outputs (1-2) or the alt monitor outputs (3-4).
